No Pain…No Gain

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. Bob Marley

Tonight is the night of the Ceilidh. At 8 pm we are playing a very short set of about 4-5 songs. We worked last night finalizing the songs for the Ceilidh and I am happy for the most part with what we have. We are opening with “A Ei Di’r ‘Deryn Du” or “Blackbird Will You Go/Fly” It is an old Welsh Folk song that is sung macaronic, 1/2 Welsh and 1/2 English, that goes way back. The version we are doing is by Cerys Matthews. Here is her version:

Next up is “LLosgi Yn Fflam” or “Burning the Flame/BUrn Crooked Flame” which is by a Welsh folk band from the 70’s called Pererin (Pilgrim). Here’s that song:

Then we are doing “Llongau Caernarfon” or “Leaving G’narfon” which is another old Welsh folk song that dates probably pre-1908. We are doing The version by Pererin except I am singing the English words:

Finally I am telling the story of Rhiannon, a famous Welsh mytholigical character, and closing with our version of the song “Rhiannon” by Fleetweood Mac that was released in 1975. Here is our version:

I just wanted to share with everyone some of the songs and what they sound like. I have been rehearsing so much I noticed yesterday that my left wrist was hurting. That is the hand that I hold my chords on. I so wish I had a few more days to let my wrist heal, alas, even if I did have time to rest my wrist I know me, I would practice through the pain anyway. So anyway, wish us luck, tell us to break a leg and I will be back on Sunday with all the details and pictures, be they gorry or otherwise….Stay Tuned… 😀

  5. Hello Jaz, another great cover again Nice touch to your set.
    Sounds to be perfect venue.
~Do you all do anything of your own compositions? Just curious.

Yes we do, if only we could ever get around to actually playing them. I have some originals and Bobby Day does as well, but alas we have just formed so those elusive originals have to be put on a back burner 😦
