Last night was another night filled with local talent at the open jam. Taduz Lemke, our showcase musician last night, did a great job. His guitar stylings that are so unique swing from Latin/classical/jazz/blues. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like it. He’s quite amazing and I was so glad that he got ahold of me. He is going to be closing out the night at The BoEx on Friday for the benefit for baby Maxwell, which should be an amazing night. Our next showcase musician is Lance Wells. He played last night and the guy has a great voice. He did covers from a variety of 70’s bands and more. He is impressive the way he stands there playing his guitar and tapping a tambourine on the stage with his left foot.
Adam Broom, the trumpet player, was his usual boisterous self. He has a tendency to be a little over exuberant and the band made a decision that he needs to be directed as to when to get up and play and when to back down because he ran over a couple of musicians the previous Saturday and they weren’t too happy about it. I think Giuseppe was getting worried because I didn’t get Adam up for the longest time, but we have our reasons for that. Adam, while being a very good trumpet player, doesn’t need to be playing on every song, nor should he because trumpet doesn’t fit on most of our songs. It’s fun to try out and see what it works on, but at the end of the day there are only so many songs that we can use trumpet for.
We had Daniel Boynton come to see us last night from Aardvark Entertainment and, while we had a little bit of a rough start, by the time we hit our closing set we were spot on smoking and I am so glad that he stuck around to hear the end of the night. I hope that Daniel can find some gigs for us. I think he knows that, while we had a couple of rough spots, we have only been together just over 2 weeks and in another week or two we are going to be smoking! By the end of the night He and his friend Sandy were up and dancing to the last three songs of the night.
I am so proud of everyone in the band. Even when we were having a problem with a song or two, no one dropped the ball and we quickly swung it back on line, and at the end of the day we are probably the only ones who noticed. I couldn’t be more pleased and I know that after we run through everything on Monday and Thursday we will be so ready to go for the BoEx benefit. Everyone that was there had a great time, and at the end of the day that’s what we strive for, to make sure everyone has fun and enjoys the music. Stay tuned…..
